A Day in the Life: Morco Driver

July 30, 2019

Hear from Morco Fresh driver Kyriakos Solomou (also known as Kevin), who takes us through a ‘Day in the Life of a Morco Driver’.

How long have you been working with the Morco Fresh family and how did you first get involved in the business?

I first got involved with my sister Melina, she mentioned to me there was a job going at Waterside fruit connection, a fruit shop which was based in the Sydney Fish Markets. I was to be working as a delivery driver as well as packing orders. After 3.5 years I was offered a position at WFC where the commencement of Morco Fresh begun. Work commenced as a delivery driver and have been driving since November 2007.

Give us a little insight to your day at morco from when you get here to when you leave?

A day as a Morco driver starts very early in the day. My shift starts at 4am and after completing the orders with the fresh produce that has just arrived from the markets I am on the road very early in order to satisfy the demand for the hospitality industry, once all my deliveries are complete I head back to the warehouse to unload and clean the truck. After I have done this I then submit my paperwork like signed POD’s to the administration team for processing.

How many deliveries do you take a day?

On average I do between 12-18 deliveries per run but there have been days where we are extremely busy, and I can do up to 23 deliveries.

What does it take to maintain a high-quality service?

Being passionate & loving what you do Is what produces high quality service. Customers really notice when you go above & beyond. From loading the vegetables in the cool room, taking back any empty boxes and passing feedback to the warehouse that high quality service can be maintained.

What are you passionate about in your role at Morco?

I am passionate about service with a smile.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a delivery driver at Morco?

One of the most rewarding things being a driver for morco is the experience of driving to different parts of New South Wales. I have been to Newcastle, central coast, Wollongong, Nowra, southern highlands, Canberra, Bathurst and pretty much covered the entire Sydney region. It has enabled me to have a more comprehensive knowledge of our city along with satisfying our customers’ needs daily.
