Halloween pumpkins

October 22, 2019

It’s that time of year again where we see mass amounts of Halloween pumpkins landing fresh from the farms of the Bowen region, North Queensland.

Our growers at Stackelroth Farms, Belinda and Michelle along with Belinda’s mother Pam, have been growing pumpkins for over 15 years. This all female team has pioneered the growing of Halloween pumpkins in Australia.

With many years of research to develop and grow that Halloween pumpkin in our challenging Australian climate, the duo nailed it, crediting the quality of their pumpkins to the warmer weather and long sunny days in the North Queensland region.

Ten years ago the market for Halloween Pumpkins would be around 50 tonnes nationally, today we see around 400-500 tonnes distributed nationally. It is great to see the spirit of Halloween continue to grow in Australia as well as supporting the hard work and dedication from our fresh produce growers. Get carving and happy Halloween!
